Dinner at home tonight, nothing special, roasted and lightly seasoned chicken legs accompanied by brussel sprouts with butter and pecans. Facing the choice, what wine would be appropriate? Here’s where a reliable “house wine” comes in handy. My dinner became much more exciting when I tasted this smooth Chilean Merlot. Bright ruby in color, this wine instantly delivers ripe red cherries and plum, then gives a dollop of walnut brownie and raspberry puree on the nose. The aroma and flavor profile are yummy, but I really like that this bargain wine has a true medium-long finish. Drink-up, even on a week-night, this wine is only 13% abv and drinks very easy. And that, class, is why this wine can go so remarkably well with many mildly flavored dishes. Sounds like a ”house red” contender to me.
